Description:
Yellow Balau is one of the most popular and durable tropical hardwood decking options available in the UK. Renowned for its exceptional density, natural strength, and resilience, it provides a premium, long-lasting surface that handles heavy foot traffic with ease. The timber features a beautiful range of golden-brown to warm reddish-yellow tones, which slowly mature into a rich mahogany brown over time. Grain patterns are typically fine and interlocked, giving your deck a clean, sleek, and highly attractive finish. Its high natural oil content gives it outstanding resistance to fungal decay, rot, and insect attack without needing chemical pressure treatment. Sometimes Boards may feature small areas of missed machining or minor pinworm holes. These natural characteristics are fully permitted within this species and grade, so we recommend accounting for them within your total wastage allowance.
Treatment: Yellow Balau does not require chemical treatment as it is naturally durable (Class 1-2). However, to preserve its vibrant golden-brown colour, we strongly recommend applying a high-quality exterior hardwood oil, such as Osmo Decking Oil or Owatrol. Left untreated, the timber will weather naturally over time into an attractive silvery-grey patina (which many customers love). If you prefer to restore the original warm tones after it has greyed, a quick application of a wood cleaner/restorer and fresh oil will easily bring the colour back.
Samples: Sample size is 150mm long and 2 shall be sent per request. The value of the request shall be deducted from your order should you proceed with our product.

About Lunawood Decking
Lunawood ThermoWood® Decking combines the unmatched, authentic beauty of Nordic wood with enhanced durability and premium performance. Made in Finland from renewable Nordic Spruce and Pine, this premium decking is modified using only heat and steam. The result is a highly sustainable, completely chemical-free, and non-toxic product that is entirely safe to touch - perfect for both private homes and high-end public projects.
Thanks to its resin-free structure and low thermal conductivity, Lunawood remains exceptionally pleasant underfoot, staying cool even under the hot sun. It is engineered to perform reliably in all climates without warping or twisting over time. Left untreated, it beautifully weathers into a natural silver-grey tone without losing its decay resistance. Alternatively, you can easily maintain its rich, original brown hue with regular applications of a pigmented wood oil such as Osmo Oil.
No face-screws, no splitting wood, and no guesswork. The SecretFix installation kit is engineered to dramatically cut down your build time while automatically ensuring a perfectly uniform finish across your entire deck.
Key Facts
Origin: Proudly engineered and made in Finland from 100% renewable and sustainably managed PEFC/FSC-certified Nordic forests.
100% Non-Toxic & Safe: Modified using exclusively high temperatures and water steam. Absolutely zero toxic chemicals, plastics, or heavy metals are used, making it completely eco-friendly and safe for children and pets.
Unbeatable Stability: Swelling and shrinkage are virtually non-existent compared to traditional kiln-dried softwood or hardwood species. The boards retain their shape flawlessly across freezing winters and hot summers without cupping, twisting, or bowing.
Splinter & Crack Resistant: Because the wood fibers are modified at a cellular level, Lunawood experiences drastically fewer splinters and deep structural cracks over its lifespan compared to standard pressure-treated lumber.
Resin-Free: The high-heat modification process completely breaks down and evaporates all natural resins and saps. You will never have to worry about sticky sap bleeding through your surface oil or staining your outdoor furniture.
