British Western Red Cedar:

The appearance of British western red cedar has a pink to amber colouring with frequent dark knots. The colouring of the British western red cedar is paler, but more consistent than the Canadian western red cedar this is due to the minerals in the soil along the coast where the Canadian Cedar is grown. British Western Red Cedar provides an exquisite aesthetic finish at a more affordable price than the Canadian Western Red Cedar. 

Treatment:

You do not need to apply any treatment to the timber as it is naturally durable although we recommend using Osmo or Treatex UV Oil to enhance the appearance as this will prevent it from turning silver (which some customers love) it is important to apply a fresh coat every 2 - 5 years to retain the colour. If you do miss this time frame it is quite easy to get it back so don't panic, Just get the sander out!

Timber that has been cut, fitted, left exposed to weather, or otherwise altered/damaged on site cannot be returned.

For standard stock products purchased online, customers may be entitled to cancel within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Please note this does not apply to bespoke, cut-to-size, or factory-treated items.

Where goods are confirmed as faulty or below grade, we will inspect and we will arrange a proportionate remedy in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015 – usually replacement or refund of the affected items.

Growth

British Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata) is sustainably grown here in the UK and offers a fast growth rate similar to its Canadian counterpart. Its colour tones are influenced by the diverse soils in which it is grown.

Colour

British Western Red Cedar features a natural mix of honey tones, and pale creams, British Cedar is not graded in the same way, so boards typically feature a higher knot content. Left untreated, it weathers gracefully to a soft silver-grey.

Applications

Ideal for exterior cladding, garden buildings, pergolas, gates, shepherds huts and exterior detailing. Lightweight, easy to work with, and naturally durable. Always use stainless steel fixings to avoid staining.
