Description

Thermowood Ayous is a premium, thermally modified timber prized for its sleek, knot-free appearance and exceptional consistency. The high-temperature kiln process alters the wood’s cellular structure, creating a product that is significantly more stable and resistant to the elements than standard untreated Ayous. It features a smooth, tactile surface and a rich, uniform brown colour that makes it an ideal choice for high-end architectural detailing.

Treatment

This timber is naturally durable and requires no chemical preservatives to maintain its integrity. While it can be left to weather (silver) naturally, we recommend applying a UV-protective oil (such as Osmo) every 2–5 years to maintain the original colour. If the timber begins to silver, the original tone can be easily restored by lightly sanding the surface before re-oiling.

Samples

Sample size is 150mm long and 2 pieces shall be sent per request. The value of the sample request will be deducted from your total should you proceed with a full order.

We want you to be fully satisfied with your order. Please inspect your delivery upon arrival and let us know of any concerns as soon as reasonably possible. Any items agreed for return or exchange must be in the same condition as supplied, unused, and stored correctly. Timber that has been cut, fitted, left exposed to weather, or otherwise altered/damaged on site cannot be returned.

For standard stock products purchased online, customers may be entitled to cancel within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Please note this does not apply to bespoke, cut-to-size, or factory-treated items.

Where goods are confirmed as faulty or below grade, we will inspect and we will arrange a proportionate remedy in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015 – usually replacement or refund of the affected items.

    Thermowood Ayous achieves a Durability Class 1–2 rating (BS EN 350 standard), giving it an expected service life of 30+ years when installed above ground with proper ventilation.

  • Treatment & Installation

    No preservative treatment is necessary for longevity. For installation, always use stainless steel fixings to prevent reactive staining, and consider a UV-oil finish if you wish to prevent natural silvering.
