Canadian Western Red Cedar:
The Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding we supply is generally supplied in "Clear and Better No.2 85-15" grade which is one of the most popular grades of Western Red Cedar available due to it being much more cost effective than Full No2 Clear & Better. If you do want the top grade, please do get in touch as we can get this machined up for you to order. The timber is almost knot free giving you a nice clean finish to your cladding there will be the occasional knot which usually you can cut out around doors or windows. The colour of the cedar is a quite remarkable range of dark reddish-brown to pale pinks and oranges this quite possibly being the reason you’re looking at Canadian Western Red Cedar in the first place!
Treatment:
You do not need to apply any treatment to the timber as it is naturally durable although we recommend using Osmo or Treatex UV Oil to enhance the appearance as this will prevent it from turning silver (which some customers love) it is important to apply a fresh coat every 2 - 5 years to retain the colour. If you do miss this time frame it is quite easy to get it back so don't panic, Just get the sander out!

Appearance and Texture
Thermowood Radiata Pine undergoes a thermal modification process that enhances its colour and texture. Compared to untreated Radiata, the thermal treatment gives the wood a deeper and more uniform brown tone, often with subtle variations. The treatment accentuates the natural grain of the pine, providing an elegant and textured appearance. This creates a refined and visually appealing cladding option suitable for various design aesthetics.
The thermal treatment also improves the texture, giving the wood a smooth and polished feel, making it an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor applications as well as saunas.
Treatment Recommendations
While Thermowood Radiata is naturally durable due to the thermal modification process, applying a protective finish is recommended to maintain its rich appearance. Products such as Osmo UV Oil or Treatex UV Oil can enhance the wood’s natural beauty and help prevent it from weathering to a silvery-gray tone over time.
• Maintenance Schedule: Apply a fresh coat of oil every 2–5 years to preserve the original color.
• If the wood has weathered or the maintenance interval has been missed, the original appearance can be restored with light sanding and reapplication of the oil.
Key Facts
• Durable: Enhanced resistance to decay and weathering due to the thermal modification process.
• Stable: Reduced warping, shrinking, or swelling, making it ideal for varied climates and conditions.
• Sustainable: Thermowood Radiata is often sourced from responsibly managed forests, offering an eco-friendly cladding choice.
Applications
Thermowood Radiata cladding is a versatile and durable option suitable for:
• Residential and commercial exterior walls.
• Interior feature walls or ceilings.
• Saunas and more.

Description
Thermowood Ayous is a premium, thermally modified timber prized for its sleek, knot-free appearance and exceptional consistency. The high-temperature kiln process alters the wood’s cellular structure, creating a product that is significantly more stable and resistant to the elements than standard untreated Ayous. It features a smooth, tactile surface and a rich, uniform brown colour that makes it an ideal choice for high-end architectural detailing.
Treatment
This timber is naturally durable and requires no chemical preservatives to maintain its integrity. While it can be left to weather (silver) naturally, we recommend applying a UV-protective oil (such as Osmo) every 2–5 years to maintain the original colour. If the timber begins to silver, the original tone can be easily restored by lightly sanding the surface before re-oiling.
